My prints are rooted in experiences as a painter and sculptor nurtured by a passion for landscape imagery. The richly varied and often spectacular scenery of the Northwest called my artistic soul like a beacon from the landscapes of Georgia, Florida, South Carolina to the interesting volcanic land of the Cascades and Pacific Coastline. Western woodcut printmaking initially accompanied my painting production, which later almost succumbed to an ever-growing fascination with Japanese woodblock, now occupying much of my inner attention. Select opportunities to venture into other relief methods, lithography and intaglio have further confirmed my appreciation for the potentials of expression through landscape themes. I have become a "Pacific Rim Artist". The polarities of spiritual affinity for Japan and a love for the landscape that surrounds me provide constant inspiration. I feel at home spiritually in the Northwest and strangely, even to myself, in Japan. The heritage of Japanese prints and their traditional themes appeal to me as well as the rivers in my neighborhood and I find my self indulging in the richness of it all for my own pleasure.
